| Because the ban on certain words are covered only over public air ways, not cable television. Basically cable television is not available to everyone unless they subscribe to cable service. Since cable is not a right, but a paid service, channels on cable and satalite television can opperate with out the restrictions that public airwaves have. |

| The answer is actually very simple. The censorship you are thinking about comes from the FCC that governs the public airwaves. Those are the traditional tv channels (2-13 plus the UHF channels). Cable is not subject to that censorship, premium channels or not. PBS is also not covered by FCC regulations because it's mostly supported by donations from the viewing public. Now the question would be why has it taken so long for cable channels to be more provocative? The answer isn't the government, it's advertisers. Non-premium cable channels rely heavily on advertising to make their money and sustain themselves. When tv shows start airing things that some people find objectionable, those people contact the advertisers and organize boycotts. The advertisers then feel compelled to withdraw their support of the channel/program and that hurts the channel, so they need to be mindful of what the public and sponsors will allow moreso than the government. That's not to say that the FCC hasn't considered and tried to regulate cable, but it doesn't at this point in time. Now for the public airwave channels, like traditional networks, they have censors in place too to ensure again that sponsors are happy, the audience is happy and the government is happy. |

| My guess is there is more revenue in the other two medias over music. I agree with Wal-Mart that much of the music out there is vulgar and nasty and I understand their stand. However, that stand must include all media, not just music. However, today's world is all about money and so is Wal-Mart no matter what Religious background the company clams to have. I bought the movie Team America, the not rated version, from Wal-Mart and even though I am a consenting adult, that is the nastiest movie I have seen in a long time. I agree with you.
